Today’s topic is about the difference between putting on something and composing your outfit consciously. Precisely this ability makes a man stylish.
It consists of a few very important elements and they all play equally important role in creating the image of an elegant man. We are talking now about the basic rules of dressing and adherence to them is absolutely necessary to enter the appropriate level of understanding of what dressing up is, for what is made and what we would like to convey to others by means of clothing.
Here are – according to me – the core principles for smart man’s dressing up:
An elegant man, before leaving home, should ask himself for what is he wearing and for what is he going out. Work, meeting with friends, an evening at the opera or a romantic dinner – all of those situations are different and have their own needs. That’s the reason why the proper outfit for every single occasion is so important.
Unfortunately, today this principle is commonly ignored as a result of the widespread collapse of the old, well-established habits and dress-code rules, nevertheless it is worth spending some time to look suitably for the occasion.
For office work it’s definitely the best to wear homogenous suit and tie in muted colours. Smart casual fits for meetings with friends or for corporate garden-party, and flip-flops, T-shirts and shorts are a great domestic or garden outfit, but not suitable for going out and about.

Exactly that ability to fit the appropriate garments to specific occasion and understanding of the dress-code distinguishes an elegant man.
The wrong size pants, jacket or shirt can destroy every outfit and ruin the image. In contrast, well-chosen wardrobe can disguise several kilograms and mask imperfections of figure. But the most important is that with the right size and styling of clothes tailored to our figure, we will simply feel good and comfortable all day. Do you sometimes see this?
Mr Waszczykowski’s clothing has already made a career on the Internet. It is a pity that for such reason …
Too big suit is the bane of Polish streets …
Or maybe better to look like this?
Such clothing presents much better.
The old rule says that with a limited budget is not worth saving on quality. An elegant man is aware that’s better to have 2 pairs of solid, hand-sewn shoes than 5 pairs of an average quality shoes. That is why it’s worth investing in at least one solid suit, have a few made-to-measure shirts and buy these 2 mentioned pairs of shoes. Their high quality is a guarantee of longevity and we enjoy them for years, instead of replacing them every now and then and losing money.
An elegant man is not characterized by the number of clothes, but their quality and durability. Of course – quality costs, but thanks to that fact we can build more compact wardrobe and enjoy our clothes longer.
It’s probably the softest of the core principles. It has little in common with the first, which means selecting an outfit for the occasion, but it concerns another aspect. Well, an elegant man always looks good also because he knows what are his limitations associated with his position at work, age, social status and appearance. It is simply not proper for men of a certain age to show off on the streets in shorts and sneakers, or to rejuvenate yourself by force wearing tattered jeans and colorful sneakers. Likewise, directors and presidents, it doesn’t behoove them to wear casual clothes on official business occasions.
Elegant man’s style is characterized by an adequacy so as to look good anywhere, at any age, so as not to expose yourself to ridicule and not to pretend to be someone else.
Man is allowed to do a lot, but he shouldn’t humiliate himself…
It is not worth to rejuvenate yourself by force, as Eric Roberts.
An elegant man does not focus on a spectacular effect in his appearance. He is trying to play properly with wardrobe, accessories and colours to create a coherent, simple outfit, in which everything will dovetail with each other. The old adage says that better is the enemy of good and fits like a glove to the way of dressing. That is why the white shirt and navy blue silk tie will always look great …
This rule does not preclude the use of accessories (a watch or other jewelry items), but it is important that the whole must look consistent.

The simultaneous occurrence of all these elements makes the man elegant. His image is consistent and instills confidence. In addition, the properly selected outfit, consisting of a good quality items, makes us feel good in every situation.
And what about you? Are you using any other rules? I’m looking forward for your comments.
